DES MOINES CHORO GROUP Led by Nick Leo on cavaquinho and piano, this ensemble plays a Brazilian instrumental style of music called Choro. Originating in the late 19th century, Choro resulted from the exposure of Brazilian musicians to European musical styles in a musical environment that was already strongly influenced by African rhythms. The Des Moines Choro Group explores this style of music with respect and admiration, playing traditional instruments and continuously researching styles and repertoire.
